How to Care for Your Extensions at the Beach

Here at De Luxe, we use custom Isla Hair. Isla hair is definitely the best brand out there! A few fun facts about Isla hair is it is hand-tied - this determines how the hair is sewn onto the weft and the size. It’s 100 percent Remy human hair. Remy is quality meaning the hair is facing the same direction. This helps prevent matting and tangling. Isla hair has its original cuticle still intact, ensuring strength and protection, making the hair look healthy and last longer than other brands on the market. Most brands are stripped and glazed to give a shiny, soft illusion, but really, it's just going to wear down shortly after it’s installed. Isla hair is also double drawn. This means every strand is the same length from root to end, giving you the maximum thickness to replicate your natural hair.

As you know, hair extensions have been gaining popularity for those who want to achieve long-flowing locks. Along with those long locks you want to be able to wear your extensions at the beach. So here are some tips for preserving the quality of your hair while at the beach:

Do:

  • Brush your hair starting from the bottom up, making sure you don’t knot or tangle the extensions (this will help with shedding)
  • oil the extensions - this will keep them silky, giving them the nutrients that your scalp oil gives your natural.
  • Wear a braid or tight bun
  • Use weekly hair masques - like Kevin Murphy Young Again and Restore will help protect the cuticle and keep the protein strong and intact.

Don’t:

  • Get sunscreen in them (they will change colors)
  • Wear a messy bun in the water
  • Don’t go to sleep with it down or wet. Always braid or twist, ensuring that the rows won’t matte.
  • Don’t use a comb at the top of the extensions. It will snag the stitching or catch and rip your natural hair.
  • Don’t pull or tug on the rows - when putting your purse on your shoulders, sleeping with it down, etc. - this can damage your natural hair by pulling it out of the scalp one strand at a time, loosening the hold by tearing your hair out.
